Rock West Racing is bringing to market a new vehicle designated the RW Spyder RS, which is a modernized tribute to the 550 Spyder, with the added benefits of modern components, a high output drivetrain, and a bit more space!

Porsche 550 Spyder vs. the RW Spyder RS

The Porsche 550 Spyder is a beautiful vehicle, but for many of us, there just isn’t enough leg room.  The RW Spyder RS wheelbase is 6 inches longer than the original design and uses a tubular space frame chassis with independent suspension on all corners utilizing modern brake components.  This model fits a Porsche 2.7 liter 6 cylinder engine and a Porsche 901 5-speed transaxle. A high output Subaru engine option is also available.

Builder Kit

Body

  • Glass fiber / polyester resin composite
  • Forward body section with hood
  • Side doors: fiber glass
  • Aft body section hinged to lift up and back to access engine bay
  • Aft section vent grills design specific custom made
  • Aft section with integrated dual heads rests
  • Windscreen: Porsche Speedster type (glass)

Chassis & Suspension

  • Chromoly steel tubular space frame. Predominantly 1.5” OD X .125 wall
  • Wheel base 90 inches
  • Independent suspension all around
  • Incorporates a-arm suspension components with poly-bushing chassis links and rod end links to bearing and spindle carriers

Hubs

  • Front: Porsche 944 spindles and hubs
  • Rear: Micro stub axle and bearing assembly in custom carrier with design specific hub/wheel adapter

Steering

  • Design specific steering column and linkage

Other Components

  • Oil tank: design specific, custom
  • Fuel tank: custom

Roller

The Roller includes everything except the engine assembly and exhaust. Upon request, Rock West Racing can manage your project to a turnkey version.
